Hurricane Karl made landfall at Veracruz this month, it rained 8 inches in 90 mins. But Mexico had already been brought to it knees before Karl ever showed-up.

Mexico's heaviest-ever rainfall has killed at least seven people and affected over 900,000 more, according to local authorities in the south and east of the country. The governor for Tabasco state warned that the situation is likely to worsen after the opening of the Penitas dam and predictions of more rain.

North of Karl's landfall the event seen on the right was setting up. The white areas in these screen shots are 14 inch rainfall estimates. The BBC is reporting this morning that 1.9 million homes were destroyed in Pakistan's floods, that thousands are still stranded with their livestock on small islands . More than 20 million people have been affected by the floods triggered by heavy monsoons which began in July.

Tuesday -- the start of the three-day Chuseok harvest festival -- dumped almost 300 millimetres of rain on parts of Seoul, an all-time high for late September since records began in 1907.

Minnesota and Wisconsin's governors declared emergencies for large segments of their states Thursday, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty planned to tour flood-damaged areas Friday. The National Weather Service said 3 inches to 5 inches of rain fell across parts of both states on Thursday. As much as 10.5 inches fell on Amboy, Minn.
